The MK1: selected by U.S. Special Operations Command

On 20 November 2025, U.S. Special Operations Command chose a select-fire variant of the Sons of Liberty Gun Works MK1 with an 11.5-inch barrel for the Combat Assault Rifle program. The decision followed a competitive evaluation that demanded the highest standards of small arms performance: USSOCOM ran the rifle through heat, cold, dust, mud, salt spray and submersion, and the MK1 held function and accuracy the whole way through. Fielding begins gradually in 2026.
SOLGW machines its own barrels, bolt carriers and receivers in San Antonio, Texas. Receivers are 7075-T6 aluminium. Barrels come in chrome-lined 41V50 CMV steel or stainless steel, both with a 1/7 twist. Bolts are Carpenter 158, MPI crack-inspected and HPT proof-fired. The trigger is a 4.5 lb Liberty two-stage, and the charging handle and safety are ambidextrous.
The MK1 was already in service with American law enforcement and in civilian hands when USSOCOM made its selection. SOLGW rifles serve with over 300 American agencies in more than 30 states, among them the US Marshals Service, the Houston Police Department and the Florida Department of Law Enforcement. USSOCOM now tops that list.
The warranty is written for the individual owner: lifetime, unlimited, covering wear from use. Shoot one out, and SOLGW fixes it. Agency purchases with high annual round counts are agreed separately.
