Teknologisk Institut - Functional Materials

Center for Functional Materials at the Danish Technological Institute develops and tests materials, energy solutions, and electronic solutions that make defence and security equipment more robust, lighter, and more reliable – from concept to tested and validated solution.

We cover a broad part of the value chain for the defence industry, offering, among other things: smart textiles and wearables for uniforms and garments (including heating and biosensing, as well as a dedicated e-textile test facility for wash, flex, sweat, and temperature cycling), drone energy systems (including fuel cells and solar cells for extended flight time), protective coatings for optics, sensors, and electronics in demanding environments, flexible electronics and sensors for structural monitoring, and advanced materials characterisation.

We have experience with European defence research and development projects, as well as with offset collaborations for the defence and security industry. We help customers ensure operational reliability under extreme conditions, accelerate the path from R&D to tested and validated technology, and navigate security requirements within defence materiel.
