AI with Operational Impact - Without Losing Control

AI is becoming widely available, but access to powerful models does not in itself create operational value. For Defense, the challenge goes further: AI must deliver operational impact while maintaining control over critical data, models, infrastructure and decision-making.

This session introduces AI Mesh, an operating model for scaling AI in complex, regulated and sovereignty-sensitive organizations. AI Mesh combines domain-owned AI products with shared platform capabilities, structured governance and continuous evaluation.

We show how Defense can move beyond generic copilots and isolated AI projects by placing responsibility close to the operational domain, while maintaining common standards for security, compliance, monitoring and quality. At the same time, the model supports a sovereign AI approach, where Defense retains strategic control over where AI runs, which models are used, how sensitive data is handled and how dependencies on external providers are managed.

Using Corax AI as the practical platform example, the session demonstrates how multiple AI products can be developed and continuously improved within a shared structure. This enables faster iteration and clearer accountability, while giving Defense the flexibility to combine sovereign infrastructure, approved models and supplier capabilities without losing operational control.
